Friendship
Yesterday, I officiated at the funeral for my friend Dorothy Woodcock. It was a privilege and an honour and also very difficult. After my divorce I was needing some single friends. I believe God led me to the Lindsay Christian Singles Club, and to Dorothy and Arlene. We became a threesome and we’ve maintained our friendship for nearly 25 years. Over that time we’ve enjoyed a multitude of lunches as well as many other activities. We’ve supported one another in tough times and celebrated together as well.
Dorothy struggled with illness but it never seemed to slow her down. I will remember her especially for her love and loyalty for her family and friends. Dorothy was a strong woman in all the ways that mattered most. Friendship is precious. It’s always a risk. There is always the possibility of joy and laughter and of sadness and tears.
I asked God for strength today. This was my last opportunity to care for Dorothy through caring for her family. God answered my prayers. Tears threatened at first, but as the service progressed I felt the strength of God’s Spirit carrying me. I am truly grateful.
Thank you God and thank you Dorothy for being my friend.
