This day’s reflection is really an announcement, an announcement I’ve been waiting several years to make. Yay!!!!
I’m thrilled to introduce to you my new children’s book for ages 4-8, titled “Rajah Finds His Wisdom”. For me it is always a leap of faith to introduce a new book.
Barring any unexpected events, Rajah will be published and ready for sale by November of this year at the latest. That means Rajah can be a Christmas gift for your child, or your grandchild or your neighbour’s child or a child at the church or a needy child or even an adult who loves children’s books like me. The cover hasn’t been designed yet, but I have given you the picture of Rajah that the illustrator, Lois Sexsmith, painted as her vision of young Rajah after she read my story.
RAJAH FINDS HIS WISDOM!
Like many of us young Rajah is displaced. He doesn’t fit into his new surroundings. He’s been sent from Africa to India where there are other elephants. He should be accepted, but he isn’t. He’s different.
We know it’s hard to be different. Children and adults exclude us. Either they are afraid or don’t trust our strangeness. At times people are just plain mean to those we identify as different. Regardless of what that difference is – hair or skin colour, size, race, religion, intellect, economic background… it hurts to be an outcast. We all respond in different ways.
Rajah’s story is about his growing up in this new place and how he responds. And that’s enough about the story. I don’t want to give it all away just yet.
Children’s stories carry a message for adults and children alike. This whimsical “good news” story will entertain and teach as you fall in love with Rajah. Over the next few weeks, I plan to post a few of Lois’ illustrations and a few tidbits about the story. Pre-ordering is helpful for me as the author.

August 19, 2022 - 3:45 pm ·Thanks Bev. I loved the image of Rajah too. It is exciting to be introducing a new book. It also takes a great deal of faith. The cost of everything seems to have gone up of course. It helps to truly believe my books are my ministry. Blessings Jan

August 31, 2022 - 1:25 pm ·I loved your short story, ‘A letter to grandparents’. My grand kiddies live three thousand miles away and visiting them has been very difficult these past two years. One, now turned six, still carries her ‘Foxie’ everywhere. Mom found an identical Foxie she keeps in a safe secret place, just in case…

September 2, 2022 - 12:50 am ·Hi Wendy, Thanks for the kind words. I think grandparents play a very important role in their grandchildren’s lives even when they live far away. Today we have SKYPE and Zoom so we can visit wherever they are. Years ago, when one of my grandsons lived in New Zealand, I made cassette tapes for him, telling him how much I loved him and reading him stories and singing songs. at the age of three he would say to his mom at bedtime, “Put Grandma on”. She would play the tape. When she got tired of it, she would remind me to make a new one. Blessings Janet
