2021 is starting with some 2020 leftovers still hanging on. Even with at least two vaccines Covid 19 looms large in our minds, especially in locked down Ontario.
I offer us all the words of King George VI from his Christmas radio message to the British Commonwealth in 1939. He quoted from the poem “God Knows” written by Minnie Louise Haskins.
“I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year, ‘Give me a light
that I may tread safely into the unknown.’ And he replied, ‘Go out
into the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall
be better than light, and safer than a known way.'”
May we all step into 2021 solid in the knowledge that God is with us. Our hands are firmly and tenderly held by our loving God. Regardless what the new year brings, we can trust that we are not alone. I am grateful.

January 3, 2021 - 12:28 pm ·Janet, I have that quote – almost word for word hanging up on a wall at my house.
My Mom sewed it in needlepoint and framed it. This is the wording she used:
“I said to a man who stood at the Gate of the Year, ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’
And he replied, ‘Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of God that shall be to you better than light, and safer than the known way.’” From the King’s Message, Dec. 25, 1939.
Mom was married the year before and Dad went to war in 1940 when the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (RCCS) was formed up. Dad was old enough that he didn’t need to go to war, he wasn’t enlisted, but he volunteered, because he had skills to keep the communication lines open thanks to his Bell Canada training.
