I don’t normally write poetry. When I picked up my December 2025 file, I found this poem that I had written just before Christmas. Tonight it feels important to share it with you even though we have stepped into 2026.

We celebrate Christmas because…
Jesus was born in the darkness of Roman occupation.
Jesus was born in the darkness of homelessness.
Jesus was born anyway.
The angels rejoiced.
The shepherds rejoiced
The wise from around the world rejoiced.
The wonder of this story
Challenges us
Reminds us
We can make room. We can celebrate.
When we’re afraid.
The child is born anyway.
Love happens. The Good News is told.
Let’s join the rejoicing.
Let’s spread the Good News.
Love is born with every child. Love can change the world.
