Tonight Tom and I, and our friends had a truly inspirational experience. We were blessed with being able to attend a performance of the Peterborough Theatre Guild’s production of “Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat”. I’ve seen this play several times, even in Toronto with Donnie Osmond as Joseph. Tonight’s performance was the best ever.
First of all, the energy of the cast picked us up right at the opening with the children and took us for a fabulous ride throughout the play. It seems impossible but there was more joy, enthusiasm, energy coming from the cast at the end than there was at the beginning.
The dancing was spectacular. I kept telling myself, these are amateurs from Peterborough. The hours of practice they must have put in paid off totally. Everyone was in total sync. There may have been glitches but I saw absolutely none. I loved the costumes. Like Joseph’s coat which was beautiful, the costumes vibrated with colour. My senses were overjoyed.
Then of course and most important came the acting and singing. The casting was perfect. The voices all beautiful, strong, and full of emotion. And the touches of humour and current thought gave us lots of laughs. My smile began with the opening number and the cranky school principal and just got wider and wider till my jaws were aching at the end.
And these were our Peterborough residents who obviously loved participating and were willing to make the commitment required for such a fine production. This experience will stay with me, bringing smiles and good feelings on my most dreary days. We are truly blessed to live here and be able to afford to attend such a magnificent show.
There are a very few tickets left for the last three performances. My recommendation – grab yours.
Thank you to the entire cast, the back stage crew, lighting, sound, everyone who was involved. You can be proud to be a part of such a wonderful production.
