My computer wouldn’t co-operate with the hotel’s wifi last night. So you are receiving two posts tonight. If you want to see the pictures that go with this post please go to Facebook – my author page. I have managed to load the pictures on there. It has taken over an hour.
September 3 Day 5
Today was a long day of travel through scenic Lake Superior country. We enjoyed mile after mile of trees and rocks and lakes. God’s beautiful creation offers endless variety. Many people in Canada have no experience of this wealth and beauty. Fresh water around almost every bend sparkling in the sunshine.
We stopped in Marathon. Rev. David Giuliano treated us to lunch and conversation. We learned about the lack of ordained clergy in our northern United Churches and of the wonderful leadership being given by lay people, especially licensed lay worship leaders.
We left the hotel in the Sault this morning at 7:30 and arrived in Thunder Bay at 5:30. Even with an hour and a half stop in Marathon, it was a long day on the road.
We are learning the value of the tourist magazines published by local governments. We consulted Thunder Bay’s effort. After just three phone calls we had chosen the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel. The price was reasonable and it had a pool and hot tob, a coveted luxury after a long day on the road. Clear directions brought us to a beautiful old railroad hotel with warm and friendly staff right on the harbor. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and faced the harbor. From the fifth floor (top of the world), the view was lovely. I would give the Prince Arthur five stars.
After settling in we walked across a covered walkway that took us over the railway tracks and a busy street, to a beautiful picnic area for supper. Once we’d eaten we decided to explore. Thunderbay has developed their waterfront as a an inviting peaceful experience for visitors and locals. There was a skateboard park, picnic area, huge splash pool, fountain pond, a spirit garden, talking circle and so much more. For two hours we soaked in the beauty.
Today, God’s amazing creation, touched my soul all day. We enjoyed mile after mile of unspoiled wilderness and finished with the beauty of a wisely developed harbor. Canada, our home is absolutely fabulous. We are blessed to live here.
