In the rush and pressure of today, the temptation is very real to omit or reduce worship at committee meetings to a short prayer. Using the Dipping Your Toes, Too resource will make leading and experiencing worship an important part of every meeting, for both leader and participants. The discussion questions enable group members to identify with the reflection and deepen their faith. As always, opportunities to share builds connections within your group.
This worship resource is unique in that it offers complete devotionals. The leader no longer needs to search through many books, selecting reflections from one, prayers, from another, searching out hymns and more. Dipping Your Toes, Too has everything together under one theme – prayers, hymn choices, scriptures, reflections, discussion questions, candle lighting and more. All are inspirational and relevant in today’s world. The message conveyed – acceptance of all people because all of us are God’s precious children.
Organized by month, September through June, the services reflect the seasons of the church year. Six additional services identified as Holy Moments Bring New Life reflect special holidays and Life Celebrations.
The worship leader may choose to use the complete service as is, or, add creativity through sharing a personal story, praying extemporaneously and more. There is even a tweet and downloadable picture to be used for advertising your meeting. At the end of each service, there is a chart provided so that you can record your experience, especially if you share responsibility for devotions among your group.
Besides the forty-six complete services, Dipping Your Toes, Too includes information, resources and suggestions about “Land acknowledgements,” an important new element in our liturgical tradition, in accordance with the findings and recommended reconciliation actions of the Canadian Commission of Inquiry into Indian Residential Schools.
For the beginning leader and faith seekers, there are Tips for Leading Devotions and Worship, thoughts about prayer, Advent, Lent and Pentecost. Other topics of emergent importance, such as language conventions, are covered to the best of our ability in Dipping Your Toes Too.
