“Don’t Play Small.”

Don’t Play Small!

Recently I purchased a new journal book titled “Morning Meditations.” I like using a journal book that carries little messages so I have something to think about as I write. Today’s message was as follows:
“When you wake up, it’s like opening a new book. Make your life your favourite story, because it’s a lovely story that happens to be true. You are the main character and you get to decide how you would like your story to transpire. You create your reality. As the author of your life, you can change scenes and make things happen. Don’t play small.”
Two sentences caught my attention this morning.: “You create your reality.” and “Don’t play small.” I thought about them for a while, then wrote:
In today’s world, every call for our attention tells us to be afraid. Politics and the economy can be a source of fear, for sure. We are told to worry about health of body and mind, particularly as we age.  Friday morning, even the weather was frightening. “Ice storm coming. Expect large scale hydro blackouts.”  This was my day to have lunch with my son and granddaughter in Ajax. Should Tom and I stay home? I reread the weather forecast. The storm wasn’t supposed to hit until 6:00 p.m. Should we chance it?
I remembered the number of times in my life that I stepped out to do something brand new. I didn’t even think about the risk of failure. The book reminded me, “I create my own reality.” What reality do I want to live? I smiled. Do I want to live my life afraid? No. Visiting Vanessa and Brad is important to me and to them. My pain is under control. I’m not sick any more. I feel good. I’ll pack my boots and my computer in case we get storm stayed. Life can be an adventure, I thought.
I added, “I don’t have to live in fear. I have a wonderful husband, a loving family, enough of all the necessities of life. I have a solid faith. Yes, I’m ready for the adventure of today. Let’s go Tom. Thank you, God for courage to live the adventure, I call life. “
